Founded in 1750 and located in the historic heart of Beaune, Maison Chanson boasts outstanding wine-making and ageing cellars: the Bastion de l'Oratoire.
This defensive tower, built by François I and acquired by the Chanson family after the 1789 Revolution, now houses bottles on four levels, protected by walls averaging eight meters thick.
Bought out by the Bollinger family in 1999, Chanson has expanded its vineyard with the acquisition of magnificent plots in prestigious appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru les Chenevottes and Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru les Folatières. Today, Chanson offers a precise and qualitative overview of the wines of Bourgogne.
The Domaine Chanson rigorously farms a 43-hectare vineyard on the Côte de Beaune. Known for the richness and diversity of its Beaune Premiers Crus, Chanson holds the monopoly on Clos des Fèves. The house makes it a point of honor to maintain its environment, practicing unclaimed organic viticulture and obtaining High Environmental Value certification since 2015.
Chanson wines are distinguished by their freshness, purity, richness and, above all, by their personality, a faithful reflection of Burgundy terroirs. The reds are harvested by hand at full maturity, vinified in whole bunches and aged in barrels with a moderate proportion of new... Lire la suite
Made from pinot noir vines grown on marl and limestone soils, Mercurey Premier Cru Clos l'Évêque du Domaine Chanson is an exceptional wine. Located in the heart of Côte Chalonnaise, this Premier Cru benefits from an east-southeast exposure, ideal for optimal ripening of the grapes. In the 16th century, the bishops of Chalon already farmed this parcel, whose wines were reserved for the noblest guests, testifying to the exceptional quality of this terroir.
The 2022 vintage was characterized by a highly variable winter in terms of temperature, followed by a mild spring. The months of April and May alternated between cool and hot weather, with a deficit of rain that was not offset by the storms of June. The summer, marked by long heatwaves, ended with salutary thunderstorms just before the start of the harvest. At Chanson, the harvest began on August 30 and ended on September 13, resulting in a vintage generous in both volume and quality. The red wines of 2022 stand out for their generosity, balance and luscious fruitiness.
On tasting, Clos l'Évêque 2022 has a brilliant ruby color. The nose reveals peony fragrances and aromas of ripe red berries such as strawberry and cherry, enhanced by hints of licorice and pepper. On the palate, the wine is well-built and complex, with a dense, tight texture. The finish is long and generous, marked by greedy fruit notes.
This Mercurey Premier Cru will go perfectly with charcuterie, pâtés, pies, grilled or roasted meats, poultry and all regional cheeses such as Langres, Epoisses, Brillat-Savarin, Citeaux, or an old Comté.
