Louis Roederer

The House Louis Roederer is one of the names that comes up when we talk about the great houses of Champagne, being still one of the Rares to remain family owned for more than two centuries now.

Reigning over a vineyard of 240 hectares classified on sumptuous terroirs in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus, the House Louis Roederer has never ceased to offer generous Champagnes that embellish all occasions.

The House of Roederer: a family heritage

It was in 1833 that Louis Roederer inherited his uncle's house: the house of Champagne Dubois Père et Fils in Reims, which he had founded in 1776. From then on, he chose to take the habits and customs of the region in hand and showed great concern for controlling all the stages of production of his Champagne. At the time, marketing was the business of the wine merchants, while the vineyard belonged entirely to the winegrowers. Thus, in 1845, Louis Roederer bought about fifteen hectares of vineyards classified as Grand Cru and acquired the status of winemaker-negociant in order to reconcile the two trades.

Description Louis Roederer Late Release 1999.

With this "Late Release" cuvée Louis Roederer unveils exceptional Champagnes. The idea is to discover the famous Vintage cuvée in a new light by bringing out a few bottles, originally disgorged, that have spent more than 20 years in the cellar. Ripe but still fresh, they illustrate the ageing capacity of Champagne wines and their formidable gastronomic dimension.

The year 1999 began with a mild spring and an early start to the vegetative cycle. Summer was scorching and continued right up to harvest. The days leading up to and at the start of the harvest were stormy and windy. In the end, the berries are ripe and will produce concentrated, seductive wines.

This is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir from Verzy and 40% Chardonnay from Chouilly, 2 Grands Crus, vinified for 20% in wood, without malolactic and with a dosage of 8g/L. While Champagne was released in 2022, it was disgorged on February 02, 2006.

The color is golden gold. A ripe bouquet of red berries and candied citrus fruits on the nose. This is followed by notes of Secs fruit, roasted almonds and Havana. The palate is caressing and creamy, with cocoa powder, baked apple and cinnamon. The finish is sunny, full of energy, and slightly iodized, for freshness.

This Champagne Louis Roederer Late Release 1999 is wildly charming, sweetly voluptuous. It's a perfect match for a creamy, iodized risotto with green asparagus.
