Philipponnat

For 5 centuries now, the Philipponnat family has been making its mark on the land of Champagne. The House Philipponnat was founded in 1522 on the lands of Aÿ, where all generations have succeeded one another. Possessing a unique historical and viticultural heritage, it reigns today over a vineyard of 20 hectares classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Avenay.

The House Philipponnat produces exceptional vintages that express the richness of their terroir, shining with elegance and purity.

What is the history of Maison Philipponnat?

April de Philipponnat was a soldier in the army of François I, and was granted lands in Aÿ by the king as a reward for his exploits at the Battle of Marignan in 1515. The Philipponnats will thus devote themselves over the generations to the elaboration of Champagnes wines, and acquire at the beginning of the XXth century cellars dug in the XVIIIth century in Château of Mareuil, a village classified in Premier Cru. These cellars are still today an exceptional heritage.

In 1997, the House Philipponnat will be acquired by the group of Champagnes Lanson-BCC, but retains its family heritage. Charles Philipponnat is now its general manager.

What is the terroir of Maison Philipponnat?

House Philipponnat operates a 20-hectare vineyard classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Avenay. The vines are worked with the greatest respect for the soil and the environment, in particular by the use of draught horses for the ploughing. The House Philipponnat... See more ...

Description Philipponnat Le Léon 2015.

La Rémissonne 2015 represents the most precise expression of one of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ's finest terroirs, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir. This Champagne is part of a trilogy of parcel-based cuvées, and 2015 is the second vintage, after 2009. Only 2,710 bottles were produced.

The 2015 vintage was marked by an exceptionally Sec summer, the most Sec in decades. Although the spring was relatively cool, the summer brought water stress Rare in Champagne, followed by some precious rainfall in early September, allowing good ripening of the grapes.

Yields were moderate, ensuring optimal concentration and above-average ripeness, with an alcoholic potential of 10.5-11%.

The vinification of La Rémissonne 2015 follows a traditional method, without malolactic fermentation, and 100% of the wines are vinified in wood. A dosage Extra-Brut of 4.5 g/l maintains the balance between freshness and vinosity, preserving the wine's purity. Aging, from seven to nine years in the house cellars, allows the wine to express its complexity, with Sec secondary and tertiary aromas from aging on lees.

On tasting, La Rémissonne 2015 stands out for its bronze-gold color and expressive nose, blending notes of yellow fruit, apricot compote and quince, with a floral touch of rose and a slightly spicy, vanilla finish. On the palate, it's round and delicious, with notes of yellow fruit, citrus and bergamot. The finish is persistent and generous, perfectly balanced.

This Champagne is ideal with game pâtés and foie gras en croûte, and can be served chilled, around 8-9°C as an aperitif or between 10-12°C with a meal.

Rémissonne 2015 can be kept for at least ten years in appropriate conditions, evolving nobly over time.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
