Jacques, a wine enthusiast of Bordeaux origin, brought with him a fresh take on Burgundian winemaking, while respecting the region's age-old traditions and know-how. Description Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Monts Luisants" 2022.
The Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Monts Luisants" 2022 embodies a unique and prestigious expression of Chardonnay in Bourgogne, from the exceptional terroir for which Domaine Dujac is renowned. Located northeast of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, on a hillside of singular character, this "Les Monts Luisants" climat is renowned for its complex geology and marked topography.
Les Monts Luisants" is positioned at the top of the Morey-Saint-Denis hillside, on an impressive 24% slope, giving the grapes an ideal east-facing exposure that captures the morning rays perfectly. This orientation allows the grapes to ripen under cool temperatures, preserving the finesse and freshness of the Chardonnay. The plot covers an area of 60 ares 15 centiares, with a notable variation in altitude, ranging from 311 to 343 meters, offering climatic diversity conducive to slow, gradual ripening.
The Monts Luisants soil is another key component of this exceptional climate. Composed of a thin layer of sandy-loamy soil (60 to 80 centimeters thick), rich in angular limestone gravels, it ensures good drainage while being very carbonated. The abundant presence of limestone, particularly Comblanchien limestone, lends a pronounced minerality to the wine. These soils are also highly susceptible to erosion, a phenomenon accentuated by the steep slope, requiring careful management to pRéserver maintain the integrity of the terroir.
The underlying substratum, formed during the Quaternary period, is composed of limestone scree known as "grèzes litées". These accumulations of angular gravel create a depth and geological richness that directly influence the complexity of the wines produced on this parcel. In places, these gravel layers can reach impressive thicknesses of over ten meters, guaranteeing moderate but constant Réserve hydric conditions, which are beneficial to the vines, especially in periods of drought.
At Domaine Dujac, vinification is respectful of the terroir's identity, and this is reflected in every bottle of Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Monts Luisants". Carefully selected grapes are vinified with a minimum of intervention to pRéserver the purity of the fruit and the mineral expression of the soil. Le Domaine favors fermentation in oak barrels, often partially new, enabling harmonious ageing that adds structure without dominating the wine's natural character.
The 2022 vintage of Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Les Monts Luisants" boasts a brilliant, limpid golden color, reflecting the perfect ripeness of the grapes. The nose reveals a complex aromatic palette, blending notes of white-fleshed fruit (peach, pear) with more subtle hints of white flowers and citrus. Barrel ageing brings out delicate nuances of vanilla and toasted hazelnut, in perfect harmony with the mineral aromas derived from the chalky soil.
On the palate, this Chardonnay offers a lively, precise attack, followed by beautiful fullness. Minerality is omnipresent, with a slightly chalky texture that lends length and depth to the wine. Well-balanced acidity lends persistent freshness, while ripe fruit aromas stretch elegantly to a saline finish, marked by hints of almond and gunflint.
