The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.
The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. The year 1989 was exceptional from a climatic point of view, and we approached the ideal conditions for the vines. Sunny, dry, but as cold as the average for the past 28 years, winter promotes good vegetative rest for the vines.
Label illustration: Georg Baselitz (1938)
It is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot.
The color is sustained with beautiful ruby and garnet reflections.
The nose is pleasantly smoky and toasted, also revealing some notes of licorice, spices and cedar.
The palate is round, with a good fruity freshness and a sustained and silky tannic structure and some subtle nuances of caramel, forest fruits, vanilla, coffee, white pepper.
The finish is good length and generous, harmonious and well balanced.
A very great vintage.
