Louis Roederer
The House Louis Roederer is one of the names that comes up when we talk about the great houses of Champagne, being still one of the Rares to remain family owned for more than two centuries now.
Reigning over a vineyard of 240 hectares classified on sumptuous terroirs in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus, the House Louis Roederer has never ceased to offer generous Champagnes that embellish all occasions.
The House of Roederer: a family heritage
It was in 1833 that Louis Roederer inherited his uncle's house: the house of Champagne Dubois Père et Fils in Reims, which he had founded in 1776. From then on, he chose to take the habits and customs of the region in hand and showed great concern for controlling all the stages of production of his Champagne. At the time, marketing was the business of the wine merchants, while the vineyard belonged entirely to the winegrowers. Thus, in 1845, Louis Roederer bought about fifteen hectares of vineyards classified as Grand Cru and acquired the status of winemaker-negociant in order to reconcile the two trades.
In 1876, Louis Roederer II, who succeeded his father following his death in 1870, created at the request of Tsar Alexander II a special vintage for the exclusive consumption of the Tsars of... See more ...
Description Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2014.
The 2014 harvest came, in equal parts, from the vineyards of "la Rivière", and "la Côte".
The year 2014 was marked by a climate of strong contrasts. After a magnificent spring and Sec ending with a scorching June, the summer was autumnal, cool and rainy to end on a hot, sunny and very Sec... worthy month of August. The "key" to the vintage lies both in the soils and the work of the winegrowers: the chalk, a winner because it drains better, in the middle-lower part of the hillside, helped to evacuate the summer's excess water and limit excess vigor...
This cuvée reveals a pink color with slightly coppery highlights. The dynamic effervescence forms a persistent cordon.
The first nose offers a pure, precise and dazzling bouquet. Intense Pinot Noir aromas recall the harvest, pure, ripe, concentrated fruit: red berries (redcurrant, wild raspberry, blackcurrant) and tart, raspberry liqueur. Then on the Second nose, come the sweet spices, smoky notes, hint of reduction (smoky, spicy) of Pinot noir with its notes of undergrowth.
The palate is concentrated and ample, where red fruits (strawberries, raspberries) are concentrated in a firm, intense texture delivering itself in 2 stages that reflect the extremes of the year: first a silky, ample attack (the final ripeness) followed by a firm, intense freshness (the cool summer).
A beautiful sensation of concentration, of a whirlwind of flavors bursts finely and progressively like salt bubbles on the palate. The saline, iodine impression combines with smokiness and acidity to give umami and an infinitely tasty finish.
Cristal Rosé 2014 has immense ageing potential. A very high quality Champagne to enjoy with grilled lobster with lemon butter or even a red fruit Pavlova.
