Chateau Gazin, it is a former Domaine of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. The Domaine is today managed by the same family as several generations ago.
The vineyard with an area of 26 hectares in one piece is located on the high terrace of the terroir of Pomerol to the east., an optimal exposure at the time of ripening of the grapes before the harvest. The soil and subsoil is composed of clay-limestone.
The average age of the vines is 35 years and the grape variety is distributed for 90% Merlot Noir, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. All the grapes are harvested by hand.
Production varies from year to year but the volume is around 80 barrels or 90 to 100,000 bottles.
Half of the wine is aged in new barrels for 18 months before bottling.
On the nose, the wine presents a complex aromatic palette combining black and red fruits, as well as floral notes associated with mocha and vanilla aromas from the ageing process
Fresh on the palate, round on the attack, very long with lovely fruit (cherry and blackcurrant). Straightforward, taut wine with a lovely structure and very silky tannins.
Excellent balance.
