Among Guigal's signature wines are those of Côte-Rôtie, an appellation that represents the very essence of Domaine. Côte-Rôtie is famous for its steeply terraced vineyards, schist soils and continental climate. The resulting red wines are elegant, powerful and complex. Guigal offers several Côte-Rôtie cuvées, including the famous "La Mouline", "La Turque" and "La Landonne". These wines are refined expressions of Syrah, with seductive aromas of black fruits, spices, violets and licorice, as well as a remarkable tannic structure. E. Guigal La Mouline 2017 is an exceptional cru from the terraced vineyards of Côte Blonde, one of the most prestigious terroirs of Domaine Guigal.
This Rare wine comes from a blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, with vines averaging 75 years old. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with traditional pumping-over and 4-week maceration, followed by 40 months' ageing in new barrels, giving the wine the aromatic depth and velvety texture characteristic of this legendary cuvée.
Visually, La robe intense purple with ruby highlights heralds great concentration.
The complex, refined nose exhales aromas of red and black fruits (black cherry, blackberry), floral notes of violet and peony, accompanied by a subtle touch of precious woods, blond tobacco and sweet spices.
On the palate, the attack is silky and ample, revealing elegant tannins and fine mineral tension. The long, persistent finish is marked by nuances of candied plum, licorice and cocoa, offering perfect harmony between power and finesse.
This great wine for laying down, with a lifespan of 20 to 25 years, should be served between 16 and 18°C.
It is ideal with refined, complex dishes such as roast pigeon with morel mushrooms, herb-crusted rack of lamb, or black truffle risotto, where its aromatic gourmandise and velvety structure sublimate each pairing.
