Domaine Delas Frères is a true Rhone Valley institution, renowned for the quality and finesse of its wines since it was founded in 1835.
Located in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of this prestigious wine region, Delas is an emblematic Domaine that has reinvented itself while respecting tradition. This subtle marriage of modernity and heritage is reflected in the precision and elegance of the wines produced, particularly in flagship appellations such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.
One of the pillars of Domaine Delas is the importance given to terroir. The region's soils, mainly granitic and schistose, bring a remarkable minerality to the wines, as well as a solid structure. The Mediterranean climate, influenced by the Mistral, favors optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving their freshness. Delas cultivates vines on steep, often terraced hillsides, making viticulture demanding but allowing the unique characteristics of each plot to be fully captured.
Domaine makes it a point of honor to vinify each plot separately, in order to respect the typicity of each terroir. The result is wines that faithfully reflect their geographical origin. With “Ligne de Crête, Les Grandes Vignes” 2019, Maison Delas presents a high-altitude interpretation of rare elegance, where the Syrah expresses itself in a style that is at once pure, precise, and deeply inspired by its terroir. Hailing from the Hermitage appellation, this wine originates from the highest plot on the hill, reaching 325 meters. On these poor, granitic soils, exposed to the elements, the vines grow slowly, yielding grapes of great intensity, marked by mineral tension and natural finesse.
The 2019 vintage, particularly healthy and early-ripening, allowed for optimal ripeness under excellent conditions. Despite low yields, the concentration of the berries and the quality of the juice promise a wine built for aging, combining richness and balance. Vinification, primarily using whole clusters, enhances aromatic complexity and preserves freshness, while the long, measured aging in barrels guides the wine toward a harmonious and nuanced expression.
On the palate, this cuvée stands out for its verticality and refinement. The nose reveals a subtle, ethereal bouquet, blending delicate floral notes, fine spices, and a mineral backbone evoking warm rock. On the palate, the wine displays a slender, precise, almost sculpted structure, supported by silky tannins and a natural freshness that perfectly balances the vintage’s concentration.
“Ligne de Crête” 2019 stands out for its style: less a display of power than a pursuit of ethereal elegance and purity of expression. A singular Hermitage of great distinction, it combines depth, grace, and aging potential with remarkable mastery.
