Domaine Delas Frères is a true Rhone Valley institution, renowned for the quality and finesse of its wines since it was founded in 1835.
Located in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of this prestigious wine region, Delas is an emblematic Domaine that has reinvented itself while respecting tradition. This subtle marriage of modernity and heritage is reflected in the precision and elegance of the wines produced, particularly in flagship appellations such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.
One of the pillars of Domaine Delas is the importance given to terroir. The region's soils, mainly granitic and schistose, bring a remarkable minerality to the wines, as well as a solid structure. The Mediterranean climate, influenced by the Mistral, favors optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving their freshness. Delas cultivates vines on steep, often terraced hillsides, making viticulture demanding but allowing the unique characteristics of each plot to be fully captured.
Domaine makes it a point of honor to vinify each plot separately, in order to respect the typicity of each terroir. The result is wines that faithfully reflect their geographical origin. With the 2020 “Ligne de Crête, Les Grandes Vignes” vintage, Delas Frères offers a unique and bold interpretation of Syrah, shaped by the altitude and purity of an exceptional terroir. Hailing from the Hermitage appellation, this rare wine is born at the summit of the hill, at an altitude of over 300 meters, on lean and demanding granitic soils. In this extreme environment, the vines develop slowly, shaping a wine of remarkable precision, where tension and finesse take precedence over power.
The 2020 vintage, marked by early ripening and contrasting weather conditions, yielded grapes with subtle balance, offering delicate tannins and an aromatic expression of great precision. Vinification, largely using whole clusters (80%), enhances the wine’s freshness and complexity. Fermentation and maceration last 10 days, and extractions are gentle to preserve the wines’ delicacy. Aging in barrels takes place for 18 months, with 30% new oak.
On the palate, this cuvée stands out for its slender and luminous profile. The nose, of great finesse, reveals delicate floral notes, mingled with mineral and spicy nuances, evoking warm stone and dry herbs. On the palate, the wine surprises with its verticality: a chiseled, airy, almost suspended structure, supported by a natural freshness that elegantly extends the finish.
Hermitage “Ligne de Crête” explores a more subtle and ethereal dimension, where Syrah gains in grace and precision. A wine for contemplation, both racy and delicately sculpted, it will appeal to connoisseurs seeking a new emotional experience from this legendary terroir.
