Domaine Delas Frères is a true Rhone Valley institution, renowned for the quality and finesse of its wines since it was founded in 1835.
Located in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of this prestigious wine region, Delas is an emblematic Domaine that has reinvented itself while respecting tradition. This subtle marriage of modernity and heritage is reflected in the precision and elegance of the wines produced, particularly in flagship appellations such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.
One of the pillars of Domaine Delas is the importance given to terroir. The region's soils, mainly granitic and schistose, bring a remarkable minerality to the wines, as well as a solid structure. The Mediterranean climate, influenced by the Mistral, favors optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving their freshness. Delas cultivates vines on steep, often terraced hillsides, making viticulture demanding but allowing the unique characteristics of each plot to be fully captured.
Domaine makes it a point of honor to vinify each plot separately, in order to respect the typicity of each terroir. The result is wines that faithfully reflect their geographical origin. Syrah reigns supreme in the northern crus, while Marsanne and Roussanne dominate the whites, particularly in Hermitage and... See more ...
Hailing from an exceptional terroir, Delas Frères’ 2022 Côte-Rôtie “La Landonne” cuvée expresses the uniqueness of one of the finest plots in the La Landonne vineyard and reveals the full nobility of Syrah in one of its most accomplished expressions.
At the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, on hillsides shaped by schist soils rich in iron oxides, this single-vineyard cuvée draws its uniqueness from a privileged location. Planted in the lower part of the vineyard, the grapes benefit from optimal ripeness, giving rise to a wine that is deep, structured, and intensely expressive.
The 2022 vintage, marked by significant drought and remarkably early ripening, yielded grapes of impeccable health, concentrated, and perfectly balanced. The winemaking process, carried out with precision, prioritizes gentle extraction. Aging in barrels takes place for 6 months (20% new barrels) followed by 12 months in 250-liter casks, enhancing the wine’s character without ever masking the terroir’s identity. A 3-month refinement in stainless steel tanks is performed just before bottling.
On tasting, the wine reveals a deep, dark color. The nose opens with a captivating aromatic palette blending floral notes of peony, sweet spices, and a slightly smoky undertone—the signature of great schist terroirs. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and rounded, carried by a silky texture and exceptionally elegant tannins. The wine captivates with its balance: a generous fullness, without heaviness, supported by an underlying freshness that extends the finish with distinction.
A wine of character and contemplation, this “La Landonne” embodies a rare and still-undiscovered expression of this legendary terroir, combining controlled power, refinement, and depth.
