Domaine Delas Frères is a true Rhone Valley institution, renowned for the quality and finesse of its wines since it was founded in 1835.
Located in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of this prestigious wine region, Delas is an emblematic Domaine that has reinvented itself while respecting tradition. This subtle marriage of modernity and heritage is reflected in the precision and elegance of the wines produced, particularly in flagship appellations such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.
One of the pillars of Domaine Delas is the importance given to terroir. The region's soils, mainly granitic and schistose, bring a remarkable minerality to the wines, as well as a solid structure. The Mediterranean climate, influenced by the Mistral, favors optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving their freshness. Delas cultivates vines on steep, often terraced hillsides, making viticulture demanding but allowing the unique characteristics of each plot to be fully captured.
Domaine makes it a point of honor to vinify each plot separately, in order to respect the typicity of each terroir. The result is wines that faithfully reflect their geographical origin. Syrah reigns supreme in the northern crus, while Marsanne and Roussanne dominate the whites, particularly in Hermitage and... See more ...
Hailing from the Hermitage Blanc appellation, this exclusive wine is crafted from grapes grown on south-facing granite slopes in the heart of the northern Rhône Valley. The blend, dominated largely by Marsanne (90%) and complemented by Roussanne (10%), precisely captures all the characteristics of its iconic terroirs:
As for winemaking, the grapes are harvested as whole clusters and then pressed. Fermentation takes place in barrels at low temperatures to preserve the wine’s aromas and freshness. Depending on the vintage, malolactic fermentation is partially carried out. The wines are then aged in barrels, on the lees for 9 to 11 months, followed by two months in stainless steel tanks before bottling, always with the aim of preserving freshness.
The vintage was marked by contrasting conditions. The end of 2022 was rainy. The beginning of 2023 was then exceptionally dry in the north until mid-spring. The second half of spring brought heavy rains. The mistral wind was absent starting in late April. Fortunately, beautiful sunny days around the time of flowering helped the vines develop well.
On the palate, the nose is delicate and expressive, opening with elegant floral notes evoking acacia and white flowers. These are followed by notes of candied citrus, ripe lemon, and orange zest. With aeration, the bouquet gains complexity with hints of yellow-fleshed fruits. A subtle touch of honey is also detectable in the background. The aging process adds a rich, indulgent dimension with notes of vanilla, toasted brioche, and a slight hint of hazelnut. The palate is full-bodied from the first sip, with a rich, enveloping texture that evolves into a silky, almost creamy mid-palate. The aromas detected on the nose are confirmed. Ripe fruit blends with floral and slightly pastry-like notes. The balance is remarkable. A precise freshness supports the richness of the aromas while adding tension and length. The mineral backbone, derived from the granite soils, elegantly structures the wine. The finish is long and persistent, prolonging the citrus and floral notes with a lovely salinity.
Domaine des Tourettes Blanc 2023 is a high-altitude, granite-based Hermitage white, deeply taut. A wine for fine dining rather than an aperitif, built to last and evolve with aging.
