Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

One of Saint-Emilion's most famous Domaines, synonymous with elegance and refinement. The vineyard dates back to the 3rd century, when the Romans planted the first vines in the region. In 1787, a first part of its name was attributed by General Jacques de Carles, "beau séjour" in memory of the pleasure he had taken in residing there.

Bought by Michel Bécot in 1969, he added his name to the estate. In particular, he restored no less than 7 hectares of limestone quarries beneath the vineyard to store old vintages in optimal conditions.

Today, his two sons Gérard and Dominique, accompanied by Julien Barthe, run the estate, having implemented numerous technical innovations in the vineyard and cellar to sublimate the fabulous terroir and, what's more, identity, of Beau-Séjour Bécot.

The Château Beau-Séjour Bécot was named Premier Grand Cru Classé as soon as the Saint-Emilion classification was created in 1955. It has retained this position ever since, thanks to the high reputation of its wines.

The Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is planted on 22 hectares of vines on Saint-Emilion's famous limestone plateau, with some clay in places. The grape varieties are 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 65% of which are new.

Description Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2014.

The 2014 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, is an elegant wine that reflects the expertise of this historic Domaine. The 2014 vintage got off to a difficult start with a rainy spring, but weather conditions improved markedly from August onwards, allowing the grapes to ripen beautifully at harvest time.

This wine has a deep, dense crimson color. On the nose, it reveals rich, complex aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), accompanied by floral notes (violet) and sweet spices, such as vanilla and cinnamon, resulting from its ageing in oak barrels. Subtle nuances of cocoa, leather and licorice add depth to the bouquet.

On the palate, the Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2014 displays a beautiful structure with fine, well-integrated tannins, offering a silky texture. It is both powerful and elegant, with a lovely freshness that balances the fruity richness. Black fruit flavors are enhanced by mineral and slightly roasted touches. The finish is long, with a marked persistence of spicy, woody notes.

A perfect accompaniment to red meats, rack of lamb, sauce dishes and mature cheeses.
