The construction of Château Coutet dates back to the end of the 13th century as illustrated by its tower of similar design to those of the military constructions of the English occupation in Guyenne.
It is a Premier Cru Classified according to the prestigious list of 1855.
It is a Sauternes-Barsac with an average vineyard age of 40 years and a grape variety split as follows: Semillon 75%, Sauvignon 23% and Muscadelle 2%.Its soils vary between reddish clay soil interspersed with fine gravel and Aeolian sands resting on a limestone subsoil.
The entire vineyard is a small 40 hectares for a production of about 50 barrels or about 60,000 bottles.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged entirely in new barrels for about 18 months before bottling.
Located in Barsac, Château Coutet is a historic wine estate renowned for its sweet, dessert wines, but also for its precise expertise in winemaking. With a history dating back to the 13th century and vineyards planted on unique clay-limestone soils, Coutet is known for its subtle balance between richness, freshness, and aromatic complexity.
The 2005 vintage has a deep, luminous golden color that reflects its maturity and careful ageing. The nose is intense and harmonious, blending notes of ripe and candied fruit, apricot, peach, and mango with hints of acacia honey, dried flowers, and orange zest. Subtle nuances of dried fruit and vanilla appear with aeration, enriching an already complex and elegant bouquet. On the palate, the attack is full and generous, supported by a remarkable freshness that perfectly balances the wine's natural richness. The texture is silky and enveloping, with flavors of candied fruit, light honey, marzipan, and a hint of sweet spices. The wine retains a lively tension and precise structure, reflecting the quality of the terroir and the exceptional vintage. The finish is long, refined, and persistent, with notes of honey, candied citrus, and dried fruit, and an elegant minerality in the background.
Château Coutet 2005 perfectly illustrates the harmony between opulence and freshness, offering a sweet wine that is noble, generous, and perfectly balanced, true to the reputation of the wine estate.
