The Château Suduiraut is one of the finest wines from the Sauternes vineyard. The property dates back to the 17th century and boasts sumptuous gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the vineyard.
The Château Suduiraut was named Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Bordeaux wines officialized in 1855 for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
Owned by the AXA millésimes group since 1992, its quality and reputation have grown steadily to become today one of the finest wines of Sauternes. Nothing is left to chance to meet this objective: passion of the teams, tailor-made choice of plots, selective harvesting, rigorous vinification and blending.
The Château Suduiraut watches over a 91-hectare vineyard planted on sandy-clay gravel soils. The grape varieties are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
In liquoreux, the estate produces a Second wine, Les Lions de Suduiraut, as well as a third wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut.
The estate also produces four Sec white wines in the Bordeaux appellation, which are in order of quality: the grand vin, a Pur Sémillon cuvée, Lions de Suduiraut and S de Suduiraut.
TASTING
Château Suduiraut 2006 is a deep golden-yellow wine, with amber highlights, and bears the imprint of Botrytis. A clear "roasted" nose combines with candied fruits (melon, apricot) and spices (vanilla, clove). As the wine begins to evolve, scents of heather honey, orange peel and beeswax appear. A fat attack and a full, intensely fruity palate (roasted apricot, tangerine) are the hallmarks of a great Botrytis vintage. Flavors last a long time, enhanced by the vintage's liveliness on dried fig and spices (saffron, white pepper). The finish is fresh, with menthol notes typical of our terroir. Château Suduiraut 2006 is a gourmet wine of great purity.
2006 VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The harvest of Sauternes began ten days earlier than last year, on September 11. At that time, we picked the grapes that had been raisined by the intense heat of early September. The richness of these first batches was between 19 and 20% potential. Despite a difficult start to the second sorting due to unstable weather, we went on to pick some very nice, rich and abundant batches. With the weather a little more Sec, the third pass went quickly, during the first two weeks of October. The richness was there too. Finally, after waiting a few days to allow the last bunches to concentrate, the harvest ended on October 17. Despite sometimes difficult harvesting conditions and significant losses due to rigorous selection, we were able to bring in a rich, fruity vintage with good acidity.
