The construction of Château Coutet dates back to the end of the 13th century as illustrated by its tower of similar design to those of the military constructions of the English occupation in Guyenne.
It is a Premier Cru Classified according to the prestigious list of 1855.
It is a Sauternes-Barsac with an average vineyard age of 40 years and a grape variety split as follows: Semillon 75%, Sauvignon 23% and Muscadelle 2%.Its soils vary between reddish clay soil interspersed with fine gravel and Aeolian sands resting on a limestone subsoil.
The entire vineyard is a small 40 hectares for a production of about 50 barrels or about 60,000 bottles.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged entirely in new barrels for about 18 months before bottling.
Barsac's Château Coutet 2015, 1er Grand Cru Classé, embodies an exceptional vintage, born of one of the driest and sunniest years in the last five decades. After a mild, rainy winter, a bright spring and early flowering favored optimal budburst. A hot summer (Sec), followed by stormy rains in August, enabled the vines to regain their water balance. Botrytization developed slowly but fully at the beginning of October, resulting in a homogeneous, very ripe harvest.
The harvest, carried out from September 15 to October 27 by a team of more than 80 people, enabled a meticulous selection of grapes with perfect botrytization. This vintage's blend of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle reflects the elegance and richness of Barsac.
On tasting, the nose opens with eXOtic aromas of mango, pineapple and ginger, enhanced by notes of vine peach and candied bitter orange. On the palate, the attack is fresh and balanced, revealing a fine minerality and controlled power.
