The construction of Château Coutet dates back to the end of the 13th century as illustrated by its tower of similar design to those of the military constructions of the English occupation in Guyenne.
It is a Premier Cru Classified according to the prestigious list of 1855.
It is a Sauternes-Barsac with an average vineyard age of 40 years and a grape variety split as follows: Semillon 75%, Sauvignon 23% and Muscadelle 2%.Its soils vary between reddish clay soil interspersed with fine gravel and Aeolian sands resting on a limestone subsoil.
The entire vineyard is a small 40 hectares for a production of about 50 barrels or about 60,000 bottles.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged entirely in new barrels for about 18 months before bottling.
Barsac's Château Coutet 2019, 1er Grand Cru Classé, reflects an exceptional vintage, combining aromatic richness and freshness. After a rainy spring favoring optimal vine development, a summer marked by an early heat wave and a drought in July concentrated the berries. The rains of August balanced out the ripening process, and a warm September (Sec) delayed botrytization, resulting in a harvest of perfectly golden grapes.
The harvest, carried out in three manual selections from October 3 to 23, lasted 19 days. The blend for this vintage comprises 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, 50% fermented in new barrels and aged for 18 months in French oak.
On tasting, the Château Coutet 2019 is distinguished by an expressive nose blending ginger, pear and eXOtic fruits. On the palate, it offers exceptional freshness, giving the wine a modern, balanced style.
