The construction of Château Coutet dates back to the end of the 13th century as illustrated by its tower of similar design to those of the military constructions of the English occupation in Guyenne.
It is a Premier Cru Classified according to the prestigious list of 1855.
It is a Sauternes-Barsac with an average vineyard age of 40 years and a grape variety split as follows: Semillon 75%, Sauvignon 23% and Muscadelle 2%.Its soils vary between reddish clay soil interspersed with fine gravel and Aeolian sands resting on a limestone subsoil.
The entire vineyard is a small 40 hectares for a production of about 50 barrels or about 60,000 bottles.
All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged entirely in new barrels for about 18 months before bottling.
Barsac's Château Coutet 2020, 1er Grand Cru Classé, is a delicate, elegant vintage, marked by contrasting climatic conditions. After a mild, rainy spring punctuated by thunderstorms and controlled hail, the summer of Sec allowed the grapes to ripen to perfection. The harvest, carried out in six successive selections between September 16 and October 26, required great reactivity in the face of capricious weather.
Composed of 95% Semillon, 4% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Muscadelle, this vintage was fermented and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Initial tastings reveal a wine of great freshness, with subtle aromas of lily of the valley and grapefruit blossom. On the palate, the liveliness and balance perfectly reflect Barsac's unique terroir.
