The Château Suduiraut is one of the finest wines from the Sauternes vineyard. The property dates back to the 17th century and boasts sumptuous gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the vineyard.
The Château Suduiraut was named Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Bordeaux wines officialized in 1855 for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
Owned by the AXA millésimes group since 1992, its quality and reputation have grown steadily to become today one of the finest wines of Sauternes. Nothing is left to chance to meet this objective: passion of the teams, tailor-made choice of plots, selective harvesting, rigorous vinification and blending.
The Château Suduiraut watches over a 91-hectare vineyard planted on sandy-clay gravel soils. The grape varieties are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
In liquoreux, the estate produces a Second wine, Les Lions de Suduiraut, as well as a third wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut.
The estate also produces four Sec white wines in the Bordeaux appellation, which are in order of quality: the grand vin, a Pur Sémillon cuvée, Lions de Suduiraut and S de Suduiraut.
Château Suduiraut, located in Sauternes and classified as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855, is one of the icons of Bordeaux sweet wine. The wine estate, combining tradition and modernity, cultivates its vines on gravelly and sandy-clay soils conducive to the harmonious development of noble rot. Thanks to rigorous viticulture and patient ageing, Suduiraut produces sweet wines that are rich, elegant, and aromatically precise. The 2020 vintage is an exceptional one, marked by difficult weather conditions. After a rainy spring, the dry, hot summer allowed for ideal ripening, followed by meticulous harvesting from September 16 to November 5. This 100% Sémillon was aged in new barrels (50%) and one-year-old barrels (50%) for 16 to 20 months.
In the glass, it has a bright, light gold color with luminous highlights. The nose is expressive and pure, revealing fruity aromas of mango, apricot, yellow peach, and pear. The bouquet is enhanced by delicate floral notes and acacia honey. After a few minutes of aeration, spicy nuances also appear. On the palate, the attack is full, fresh, and silky. A vibrant acidity brings balance and elegance to the wine. Flavors of candied fruit mingle with hints of honey, vanilla, and almonds, offering a rich yet refined profile. The finish is long, with notes of ripe fruit.
Château Suduiraut 2020 illustrates the elegance and freshness of the vintage, while retaining the noble and refined style that is the hallmark of the house: a sweet wine that is precise, balanced and promising for aging.
