It is a Premier Cru Classified according to the prestigious list of 1855 presented to the Emperor Napoléon III, on the proposal of professionals involved and recognized in the Bordeaux.
His reputation , Château Rayne Vigneau. owes it to its quite exceptional geographical location. The 80-hectare vineyard is located on the Bommes plateau, a gravel and sandy ridge harboring agates, onyxes and sapphires.
Furthermore, the Ciron River, a tributary of the Garonne River, provides early morning autumn mists conducive to the birth of botrytis, a form of over-ripening of the berries at the time of harvest.
The vines, whose average age is 40, are made up of the Semillon grape variety for 80%, and the Sauvignon grape variety for 20%. All the harvest is manual with successive sorting, sometimes up to 7, depending on the year to achieve this degree of perfection.
The wine is aged for 50% in new barrels for about 18-24 months before bottling.
A vintage of contrasts that ended superbly.
A particularly mild winter gave way to a rainy spring, with a small miracle of sunshine during flowering. The terroir enabled the vines to react calmly to the very hot summer of Sec. The vines drew the water they needed to thrive from the deep clays. The rains of September 15 triggered fog and botrytis, and sorting began.
The heterogeneity of Rayne Vigneau's terroir plays its qualitative role to perfection, allowing us to be "in the right place at the right time". The start of the classic, pure harvest suddenly turns into a week of magical madness. The botrytis is perfect, everything has to be picked. And that's what we did in 6 very active days! All that remains is to let the white frosts pass to finish the harvest on October 28. Purity, precision and power are the watchwords for Rayne Vigneau's Château wines in 2016.
