The Château La Tour Blanche is one of the must-have wines of the Sauternes vineyard. Founded in the 17th century, it was named Premier Grand Cru Classé during the classification of Bordeaux wines officialized in 1855 for the Paris World Fair.
It was bequeathed to the French state on the death of its then owner, Daniel Iffla, on condition that a school of viticulture and oenology be created on site. Today, the estate is highly respectful of the environment, thanks to numerous certifications, and everything is thought out in the vineyard as well as in the cellar to create a very great wine that can reconcile tradition and modernity, concentration and balance.
The Château La Tour Blanche is based on a 40-hectare vineyard planted on a gravelly hilltop on a clay-limestone subsoil. The grape varieties are 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
In liquoreux, the estate produces a Second wine, Les Charmilles de La Tour Blanche.
The property also produces Secs white wines in the Bordeaux appellation: Duo de La Tour Blanche and Les Jardins de La Tour Blanche, both delivering different expressions of what Sauternes can offer.
The Château La Tour Blanche produces a great sweet wine with a well-defined style, aiming to be harmonious, full of finesse and with great longevity.
The Château La Tour Blanche 2013, 1er Grand Cru Classé from Sauternes, is a wine of great finesse, born of a demanding climatic year. This vintage reveals a magnificent golden color and a complex nose of golden honey, candied apricot, fig and eXOtic fruits, with hints of white flowers and sweet spices. On the palate, its unctuous texture unfolds with flavors of honey, candied citrus and fruit Secs, balanced by lively acidity.
