Owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924
Location & History
Château Doisy-Daëne, Second Cru Classé in 1855, located in Barsac in the Sauternes appellation, has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924. For over eighty years, three generations of winemakers have worked here from father to son to produce great sweet wines: Georges (1924-1948), Pierre (1949-1999) and Denis since 2000.
Soils
The terroir of the Barsac plateau is a singular geological formation in the Bordeaux region. A thin layer of clayey sands known as "les sables rouges du barsacais" covers the limestone subsoil. This relatively uncracked slab of rock limits the vines' rooting depth to around 50 cm. During the summer, the finely porous limestone returns to the vines the water they have soaked up during the winter, avoiding excessive water stress. This type of soil gives white wines exceptional finesse.

Château Doisy-Daëne, located in Barsac and classified as a Second Growth in 1855, is one of the Dubourdieu family's most iconic properties. Renowned for the precision, finesse, and purity of its white wines, the wine estate has distinguished itself since the early 20th century through its demanding approach to viticulture and winemaking. L'Extravagant is a rare cuvée, as it is only produced in great vintages.
The 2006 vintage has an intense, bright, and luminous golden color. The nose opens with a complex bouquet of candied and exotic fruits: mango, pineapple, passion fruit, dried apricot, and peach. Notes of honey, quince paste, and orange marmalade also stand out. A touch of candied ginger and orange blossom brings freshness and a subtle spicy dimension. On the palate, the attack is sumptuous and full-bodied. The body has a beautiful density that envelops the palate with great richness. A perfectly chiseled acidity balances the whole and prevents heaviness. The flavors of candied fruit, honey, citrus zest, and sweet spices unfold with intensity, demonstrating incredible concentration. The finish is very long, carried by aromas of exotic fruits.
The 2006 L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is an exceptional sweet wine: intense, precise, with dazzling purity and prodigious aging potential. A true demonstration of mastery and elegance.
