Founded in 1772, Littlemill is recognized as Scotland's oldest legal distillery, located on the border between the Lowlands and the Highlands. Its rich history, unique distillation techniques, and iconic whiskies make it a legend among single malt enthusiasts.
Littlemill began on the site of a brewery dating back to the 1750s, before obtaining its official license in 1773, becoming Scotland's first legal distillery. Its history has been marked by many twists and turns: rebuilt in 1875, it has been closed and reopened several times, notably in 1931 under the leadership of Duncan Thomas, an innovative American. Thomas introduced revolutionary techniques such as double distillation and the use of rectification columns, enabling the production of three styles of single malt: the classic Littlemill (light and fruity), Dunglass (lightly peated), and Dumbuck (heavily peated).
In 1994, the distillery closed its doors for good, but its stocks continue to be bottled by Loch Lomond Distillery, offering limited editions that are highly sought after by collectors.
Littlemill stood out for its innovative approach:
Treat yourself to an exceptional sensory experience with this single malt aged for 25 years in oak barrels, where time has shaped a rare complexity and elegance. Presented in a refined box, this whiskey is an invitation to discover the art of maturation, where every detail counts.
The nose offers a captivating aromatic palette: ripe, generous, and juicy fruits mingle with the sweetness of honey and the roundness of vanilla, while a hint of oak adds a touch of depth. A delicate and captivating opening, where each note evokes the nobility of patiently mastered aging.
On the palate, a velvety and harmonious tasting experience: caramelized apples, melting pears, and a subtle touch of cinnamon combine with malt for a delicious and balanced experience. Each sip reveals a subtle finesse, where the flavors unfold with grace.
The long, smooth finish leaves lingering notes of creamy caramel and dried fruit, for an elegant and comforting persistence. A whiskey where time and expertise come together, offering a memorable and sophisticated tasting experience.
