A.E. Dor
A house of Cognac created in 1858 by Jean Baptiste DOR, continued by his Son Amédée Edouard DOR who researched, selected and collected the best Cognacs and eaux de vie. In those days, professionals called him "the antique dealer of Cognac".
After aging in oak barrels for decades (70 years and more), some of these venerable Eaux de vie from Grande Champagne, the Premier Cru de Cognac, were carefully collected at the fullness of their aroma in wax-sealed Dames-jeannes, to keep them intact.
Today, these glass carboys sleep in a cellar Secret called "Paradis", unchanged since its creation, proudly displaying their prestigious vintages. The jewels of the AE DOR House, their origins generally predate the famous phylloxera epidemic of 1874. They have preserved their precious contents intact for over a century, justifying the worldwide renown of Maison AE DOR.
Description A.E. Dor Réserve Spéciale 1979.
This Réserve Spéciale is distilled from grapes only from the 1979 harvest and exclusively from grapes from the Fins Bois terroir. A Cognac that has aged 40 years in oak barrels in the damp cellars of Maison AE DOR, renowned for their particular humidity levels.
1979 is an underestimated vintage because it is difficult, but the cellar master's exemplary craftsmanship has succeeded in bringing out all the nobility and qualities of these old eaux-de-vie.
At first sight, hidden behind its beautiful amber color, we perceive fruity notes of rhubarb, overripe melon and sweet white wine. The nose becomes powerful, with notes of walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts, as well as more eXOtic aromas of coconut, cinnamon and other spices. A hint of rancio typical of old Cognacs completes the picture, with pretty floral notes that bring elegance and freshness.
The palate is powerful and ample, with a fatty texture. The aromas are reminiscent of an old tawny port, with notes of Secs grapes, walnuts and almonds. It finishes with generous notes of marzipan and rancio in a long, persistent finish.
