Installed in southwest France since 1270, the Frapin family has been winemakers, then distillers for over twenty generations, owning a 240-hectare Vineyard in Grande Champagne.
It's Grande Champagne, classified as Premier Cru in the Cognac Region, that will become the chosen land of this family settled at Château de Fontpinot.
In its family tree, the Frapin family includes the famous 16th-century writer Antoine Rabelais. In a nod to history, Maison Frapin's logo features the writer's golden feather.
The wines are distilled with the lees at Frapin. After the traditional double distillation known as "Charentaise", the newly distilled eaux de vie are housed for a quarter in new barrels and for the rest in red or older barrels.
The Frapin house produces a wide range of Cognacs, the oldest of which date back to 1888.
The Cognac Frapin Millésime 1982, 40 years old, is a true Rareté, representing the art of prolonged aging. This vintage, the Second ever launched by the Frapin house, embodies the very essence of family know-how and the Grande Champagne terroir, renowned for its ability to produce Cognacs of great longevity. From a 240-hectare vineyard, this Cognac has been distilled on lees, a technique that brings depth and aromatic richness. After 40 years in the company's cellars, this vintage is born with the authenticity guaranteed by the BNIC, which seals the casks and monitors their ageing.
Color: A brilliant color with orange-yellow highlights, a sign of its long stay in oak barrels.
Nose: The nose is of great finesse, with complex aromas of candied fruits such as orange and caramelized apple, accompanied by notes of Secs fruits, notably apricot. This rich bouquet testifies to the exceptional maturity of this Cognac.
On the palate: The 1982 vintage reveals a perfect balance between an elegant woody note and persistent freshness. Subtle touches of licorice and nutmeg enrich this aromatic complexity, offering a refined experience. The finish, of great purity, is marked by remarkable finesse, prolonging the tasting experience with delicacy.
This Cognac is the expression of a unique savoir-faire, where time has magnified every nuance to offer a spirit of Rare elegance. Discerning connoisseurs will find incomparable depth and complexity, perfectly illustrating the ageing potential of Cognacs from Grande Champagne.
