Installed in southwest France since 1270, the Frapin family has been winemakers, then distillers for over twenty generations, owning a 240-hectare Vineyard in Grande Champagne.
It's Grande Champagne, classified as Premier Cru in the Cognac Region, that will become the chosen land of this family settled at Château de Fontpinot.
In its family tree, the Frapin family includes the famous 16th-century writer Antoine Rabelais. In a nod to history, Maison Frapin's logo features the writer's golden feather.
The wines are distilled with the lees at Frapin. After the traditional double distillation known as "Charentaise", the newly distilled eaux de vie are housed for a quarter in new barrels and for the rest in red or older barrels.
The Frapin house produces a wide range of Cognacs, the oldest of which date back to 1888.
The 25-year-old Cognac Frapin Millésime 1998 is distinguished by its elegance, roundness and refinement. It embodies the perfect symbiosis between an exceptional terroir, ancestral know-how and a tireless quest for excellence. This vintage, marked by contrasting climatic conditions, produced a Cognac of great complexity. After a rainy spring, the summer drought favored the concentration of aromas and sugars, while preserving good acidity. The 1998 harvest produced grapes of optimal ripeness, revealing a spirit with a unique aromatic profile.
Color: The brilliant golden-orange color reflects the long aging process in oak barrels.
Nose: The nose is subtle and delicate, revealing aromas of orange peel, dried mandarin and candied lemon. A touch of vanilla enriches this complex, elegant aromatic palette.
Palate: This Cognac seduces with its silky texture and gourmet flavors, dominated by notes of cooked apricot and caramelized peach. On the finish, a hint of nutmeg and fine woodiness reveal a slight rancio, characteristic of great aged Cognacs. Remarkable length on the palate, prolonged by aromatic complexity, testifies to the expertise of Frapin.
This 1998 vintage is a true expression of the Grande Champagne terroir and will delight enlightened connoisseurs looking for a Cognac Rare, rich in nuance and finesse.
