The history of Glengoyne has its roots in a time when whisky distillation was often practiced clandestinely, sheltered by the hills and forests of Dumgoyne. Officially founded in 1833 under the name Burnfoot Distillery, it has survived the centuries while preserving its artisanal spirit. In 1906, it adopted the name Glengoyne and in 1984 was granted a royal warrant, becoming the official supplier to the Queen Mother, a distinction that attests to its excellence and still adorns its bottles today.

Unique expertise: slowness as a way of life
Glengoyne stands out for its production philosophy, where patience and precision are paramount. Each step is designed to enhance the natural aromas of the whisky, without artifice or haste.

Exceptionally slow distillation
With a flow rate limited to just 5 liters per minute—three times less than the Scottish average—Glengoyne practices one of the slowest distillations in Scotland. This slow distillation process allows for prolonged contact with the copper of the stills, promoting the extraction of light and fruity esters. Carried out in two passes through three stills, this method gives the whisky delicate aromas of green apple, a sweetness and complexity that set it apart from traditional distillations, often associated with heavier notes of tobacco or leather.

A precious and early cut of the distillate
Glengoyne opts for an earlier than usual cut of the distillate, retaining only the finest "heart" of the distillation. This rigorous selection guarantees whiskies of perfect elegance and balance, where every drop is the result of uncompromising craftsmanship.

Pure water from the Campsie Fells
The water, drawn from the Campsie Fells hills, is another of Glengoyne's secrets. Its purity and natural minerality contribute to the finesse and clarity of the spirits, reinforcing their unique character.
