Château du Tertre

Château du Tertre

In the 12th century, traces of this Château can already be found in the Archives of the Arsac seigneury, owned by the de Montaigne family, the famous French writer and Mayor of Bordeaux in the 16th century.

It borders Châteaux Cantenac-Brown and Brane-Cantenac to the north and Château Giscours to the east. It is situated on one of the Médoc's highest gravelly hilltops, from which it takes its name. Its vineyard is remarkable for two reasons: it's in one piece and it faces due south.

It's a fifth Grand Cru Classé following the prestigious 1855 list.

Varietal composition: Cabernet Sauvignon: 45, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Franc 20% and 5% Petit Verdot.

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, and annual production is in the order of 255 barrels, or around 300,000 bottles.

50% of the wine is aged in new barrels for an average of 18 months, depending on the typicity of the harvest.

Description Les Hauts du Tertre 2023.

Terroir : Gravel of Garonne origin and sand of glacial origin

Area in production: 40 ha

Age of vines: 16 years, vineyard restructuring plan completed by 2035

Harvest: Hand-picked, from September 13 to October 3

Aging: in Bordeaux barrels, 60% new wood, 40% single-vineyard wood, 12 months

Les Hauts Du Tertre remain true to their style, full of fruit and greed. To achieve this, the blend is based on crisp, juicy Merlot and smooth, delicate Cabernet Franc. A good proportion of Petit Verdot adds fleshiness and a certain tonicity. Dense, racy Cabernet Sauvignon adds freshness, tension and length. A wine for pleasure, accessible and gourmet.
