The family story is a tale of commitment and passion for the art of Cognac. The Braastad family, of Norwegian origin, settled in the Cognac region in the 19th century. In 1875, Sverre Braastad, the patriarch, founded Maison Braastad. Since then, the family has continued to pass on its expertise from generation to generation, perpetuating the family legacy in the world of Cognac.
The Domaine spans acres of lush vineyards in the Cognac region of Charente. The vines are planted in clay-limestone soils and benefit from the region's mild, sunny climate, ideal for growing the grape varieties of the Cognac appellation, principally Ugni Blanc.
The unique terroir of the Cognac region, with its limestone soils, contributes to the aromatic richness and complexity of the eaux-de-vie produced. Traditional cultivation methods are used to ensure the quality of the grapes, an essential element in the production of top-quality Cognac.
Manufacturing methods are steeped in tradition and excellence. The distillery is equipped with traditional copper stills, which are used to distill the wines by hand. The resulting eaux-de-vie then undergo prolonged aging in oak casks, where they acquire their distinctive character and complexity.
Located in the heart of the Cognac region, is a key element in its success. Cognac is recognized worldwide as one of the best terroirs for the production of Cognac. The influence of the climate, soil and natural environment is reflected in the exceptional quality of the eaux-de-vie.
