However, it was in the early 20th century that Château experienced a decisive turning point when the Perrin family, owners of the famous Château Carbonnieux, took over the reins of La Garde. The terroir of Château La Garde is a major asset for the quality of its wines. The vines extend over nearly 56 hectares of gravelly soils, characteristic of the Pessac-Léognan region. These gravelly soils, made up of pebbles and gravel, provide excellent drainage and optimal heat retention for the vines. In addition, the proximity of the Garonne River plays an essential role in regulating the microclimate, creating ideal conditions for the cultivation of Bordeaux grape varieties.
The vineyards of Château La Garde are mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties, which are well adapted to the terroir of Pessac-Léognan.
