The history of Château La Garde dates back to the 18th century, when the Dejean family acquired the property. However, it was in the early 20th century that Château experienced a decisive turning point when the Perrin family, owners of the famous Château Carbonnieux, took over the reins of La Garde. The Perrins bring their winemaking expertise and passion for the land, which quickly propels Château among the greatest Domaines of Pessac-Léognan.
Over the generations, the Perrin family continues to pRéserver the integrity of Domaine and enhance La Garde's exceptional terroir. Today, Château is still run by family members, who perpetuate a centuries-old winemaking tradition while using the most modern techniques.
The terroir of Château La Garde is a major asset for the quality of its wines. The vines extend over nearly 56 hectares of gravelly soils, characteristic of the Pessac-Léognan region. These gravelly soils, made up of pebbles and gravel, provide excellent drainage and optimal heat retention for the vines. In addition, the proximity of the Garonne River plays an essential role in regulating the microclimate, creating ideal conditions for the cultivation of Bordeaux grape varieties.
The vineyards of Château La Garde are mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties, which are well adapted to the terroir of Pessac-Léognan. Harvesting is carried out by hand, allowing careful selection of the ripest, healthiest grapes, preserving the pure expression of the terroir.
Winemaking at Château La Garde combines tradition and modernity. Grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks with extended maceration to Extraire tannins, color and aromas. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, where the wines acquire complexity, structure and subtle aromas. Château pays particular attention to the balance between fruit and oak, creating elegant, well-balanced wines.
The wines of Château La Garde are distinguished by their elegance, refinement and ability to age well. They offer a complex aromatic palette, with notes of ripe fruit, blackcurrant, cherry and hints of tobacco and undergrowth. On the palate, the wines are structured, with silky tannins and a fine persistence on the finish.
