Bollinger

In the heart of the village of Aÿ, the House Bollinger enjoys a universal prestige that is no longer to be proven, always in search of excellence. Proof of this is the fact that on the one hand, Bollinger is one of the Rares to own and produce their own grapes for the production of their vintages, but that it is also the only one to still have a cooper in residence.

The latter maintains the 3500 barrels, some of which are over 100 years old, day after day. A centuries-old know-how that the House Bollinger is committed to perpetuate.

What is the history of the House of Champagne Bollinger?

The men behind Bollinger

The origin of the House Bollinger is intimately linked to Athanase de Villermont (born in Cuis in 1763 and died in Aÿ in 1840), an admiral in the French army who distinguished himself in the American War of Independence and in particular at the Battle of the Chesapeake on April 29, 1781. A few years later, he inherited a vast Domaine family estate in the vicinity of Aÿ, a terroir renowned for the quality of its wines, which were not officially named "Champagne" until the creation of the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée in 1936.

Description Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé 2015.

When Lily Bollinger, the Grande Dame of Maison Bollinger, was asked to create a Rosé, she replied "yes, but then a Rosé out of the ordinary". The result is the combination of La Grande Dame cuvée and a red wine from the La Côte aux Enfants parcel at Aÿ, the House's famous 1 ha monopole.

The blend for this cuvée is 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay, from 11 crus classified as Grand Cru, such as Verzenay, Aÿ, Mareuil, Chouilly, Avize..

Vinification is carried out in small oak barrels - Bollinger remains one of the last houses still to vinify its wines in barrels - and aging is always prolonged on fine lees. Each bottle is stirred and disgorged by hand. Finally, a moderate dosage of 7g/L is applied.

La Grande Année Rosé 2015 is a subtle blend of a great Champagne and a unique red wine.

Its color is sparkling, with delicate pinkish highlights.

The nose is intensely fruity, a true gourmet composition of strawberry, tangerine and rhubarb.

The attack on the palate is both pulpy and silky. Aromas of stone fruit and blood orange blend harmoniously, building up a light, elegant tannic structure.

This Champagne La Grande Année Rosé 2015 from Maison Bollinger is generous and harmonious. It will sublimate a simple apricot and mandarin clafoutis. But it will also reveal itself to be troubling and daring with a lobster à la plancha.
