Château Desmirail

Château Desmirail

It was Jean Desmirail, a famous Lawyer at the Parliament of Bordeaux who gave his name to this Château at the end of the 17th century.

This is a Third Grand Cru Classé following the prestigious 1855 list.

The vineyard, which extends over some 30 hectares and is planted on Quaternary gravel soil and subsoil, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot noir 39% and Cabernet Franc 1%.

All grapes are harvested by hand with successive sorting in the vines. The average annual production, which varies according to climatic conditions, is around 150 barrels, or the equivalent of around 180,000 bottles, with a low controlled yield per hectare of 6,000 bottles.

The wine is aged in one-third new barrels for 18 months prior to bottling.

Description Château Desmirail 2011.

With its lovely vermilion color and tiled highlights, the wine presents itself to us with an initial nose dominated by fruit. Delicate scents of ripe red fruit blend with more complex notes of cocoa and fireplace hearth. On the palate, the balance is superb. Soft, silky tannins give this wine density, finesse and depth. Spicy, woody aromas emerge, subtly taking over from the crisp fruit. The long, persistent finish leaves a beautiful imprint on the palate.
