Château Maucaillou

Château Maucaillou

In 1875, J. Petit-Laroche married, and offered his wife in caDeau of marriage, the construction of a beautiful bourgeois home opposite his Médoc cellars: the present-day Château. The work was carried out by the Marian brothers, contractors in Moulis.

It's a strange and daring architectural blend that seems to marry several styles, much like the Médoc wine that's made from the blending of several grape varieties.

The overabundance of decor, which aims to evoke the Renaissance and the mid- to late 17th century, make this building an excellent example of the eclectic architecture that flourished in the Médoc at the end of the 19th century, before the crises that the vineyard may have subsequently experienced (Phylloxera, mildew, ...).

Description Château Maucaillou 2016.

With its dazzling garnet-red color, this wine reveals a warm nose with an intense, complex bouquet. Chocolate and roasting notes appear at first, then, after aeration, it's possible to distinguish pretty black fruits as well as a floral hint. The palate is powerful, with a fine tannic structure. The wine is perfectly balanced between generosity and liveliness. Soft to the touch thanks to the satiny tannins, it will need a few more years to fully unfold.
