Rene Geoffroy

The Geoffroy House has its origins dating back to the early 17th century on the lands of the commune of Cumières, in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Since then, the winegrowing know-how has been passed on from generation to generation and today, Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy and his wife Karine, accompanied by their daughters, watch over their 14 hectares vineyard with passion. They produce Champagnes "of winemaker" as we like to say, that is to say authentic and bearers of a history that is found even in their taste of terroir.

What is the history of the Geoffroy House?

The Village of Cumières is the anchor of the Geoffroy family in the 17th century. Generations follow one another but it is really only in the early 1950s that René Geoffroy and his wife Julienne decide to elaborate their own Champagne, thus the Geoffroy brand is born. Their son René succeeded his parents at the head of the company and acquired new parcels of vines in order to develop his business properly. His son Jean-Baptiste took over at the end of the 1980s, having graduated in viticulture and oenology. With his wife Karine, he decided to transfer the activity of Maison Geoffroy to Aÿ in 2008. Today, they gradually transmit their passion and know-how to their 5 daughters who will embody a fifth generation of winemakers.

What is the terroir of Maison Geoffroy?

The vineyard of Maison Geoffroy covers 14 hectares on the hillsides of Damery, Hautvillers, Fleury la rivière and especially Cumières. Cumières is a village that is classified as Premier Cru, between the river la marne and rugged southeast facing hillsides. The grape variety is 42% Pinot Noir, 39% Pinot Meunier and 19% Chardonnay, and the oldest plot was planted in 1926, with the vines having an average age of 20 years.

The soils are chalky for the Chardonnay, clay-limestone for the Pinot Meunier and clay-siliceous for the Pinot Noir.

The wines are aged for the most part in oak tuns and then aged in bottles in the house's chalky cellars nearly 15 meters deep.

The emblematic cuvées of Maison Geoffroy

Each cuvée of Maison Geoffroy is the identity of a great terroir, asserting a character of its own.

The cuvée Expression Brut Premier Cru reflects the style of Maison Geoffroy, being lively, iodized and with a beautiful aromatics centered on floral and vanilla notes. It will be perfect with an aperitif or shellfish.

What if you succumbed to the very original Blanc de Rose Extra brut Premier Cru, made by a bleeding of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in parity and imagined by Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy. A very greedy Champagne Rosé, with beautiful notes of citrus, grenadine and lemon zest. Mineral and fresh, it will satisfy summer aperitifs as well as raw fish dishes such as sushi or carpaccios.

Let's introduce the 2010 Cuvée Terre Millésimé, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the oldest parcels in the vineyard. A finely constructed Champagne, deep and with an aromatics carried on the flower and vanilla, ideal to accompany refined dishes.

Description René Geoffroy Blanc de Rosé.

A marvelous alchemy created by Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy, this Champagne master, for this Champagne elaborated with audacity by bleeding after a maceration of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.

After a few hours of maceration of the red and white berries of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the juice of reason becomes pink and it is at this precise moment that the Champagne master decides alone to stop the maceration. Quite an art! Available in small quantities around two thousand bottles.

The dress is very pale pink.

On the nose: fine touches of red berry aromas mixed with citrus notes such as Corsican mandarin, Florida pink grapefruit and Menton lemon zest.

The palate reflects the aromas of the nose with a final remarkable freshness.

A brilliant opportunity to introduce this champagne to your friends as an aperitif or with smoked fish carpaccio such as salmon or trout from Auvergne or even with a red tuna sashimi.
