Château Lynch-Moussas
The Château Lynch-Moussas is located on the large plateaus to the west of the Pauillac appellation. Its name is inspired by the plateau where most of its vineyards are located.
The Château Lynch-Moussas was named Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
The Castéja family acquired it at the beginning of the 20th century, and since 2001 it has been managed by Philippe Castéja, who has since given birth to great wines renowned for their finesse and structure.
The Château Lynch-Moussas is based on a 62-hectare vineyard planted on gravel soils, with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with around 55% new wood.
The estate produces a Second wine, Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas.
The Château Lynch-Moussas offer fleshy, concentrated wines with a fine tannic structure. Built for ageing, they are also accessible in their youth.

Description Château Lynch-Moussas 2016.
2016 is undoubtedly a vintage for which magnificent wines have been produced. The beginning of the year will see rather constraining conditions in the vineyard, but the vine flowered in June under beautiful sunshine and the summer that followed was hot and dry. The vine took advantage of these ideal conditions for the development of the berries. Finally, the beautiful months of September and October allowed for excellent ripening of the different grape varieties.
Blend of the 2016 vintage: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot.
The robe is a beautiful dark purple color, tinged with lightly tiled purple reflections.
The nose reveals a very nice aromatic expression, with black cherry, blackcurrant bud, peppery spices and balsamic notes of cedar.
The attack is supple, the wine expresses itself with elegance and rises crescendo in power on the middle palate. The well-built tannins give it concentration and density, it melts with great freshness on a fruity, long and elegant finish. A Pauillac of pleasure which is particularly successful.
Food and wine pairing:
Château Lynch-Moussas 2016 in magnum will go very well with a suckling lamb from Pauillac, a roast beef in a herb crust, a grenadin of veal with morel sauce, a jig of venison grand veneur or even a salmis of Pigeon.
For an agreement with cheeses, taste it with Cantal, Edam, aged mimolette, morbier with truffles or Saint-Nectaire.
For desserts, it will be perfect with a famous dark chocolate mi-cuit, a chocolate ganache or a Paris-Brest style layer cake.
Ageing potential and tasting:
Château Lynch-Moussas 2016 in magnum has a great capacity of guard, the capacity of the format conferring indeed more potential of ageing to the wine. Its peak will be reached between 2035 and 2040.
However, it can very well be tasted now. To do this, open and, if possible, decant the bottle in the serving room between 15 and 18°C, ideally 5 to 6 hours before tasting.
The bottles should be kept in a dark cellar, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
