Veuve Fourny

Veuve Fourny

This is the fifth generation since 1856 in Vertus, famous Premier Cru Classé of the Champagnes region, who runs the vineyard Veuve Fourny . This vineyard is located mostly on the Côte des blancs. It is composed of old vines of more than forty years, an ideal age and an indispensable condition to achieve this degree of quality of Champagne.

In addition, the orientations of the southern, eastern and southeastern plots favor optimal maturations and sanitary state of the vine at the times of formation of the formances, flowering and harvest.

The vineyard covers about 23 ha, of which 19 are planted with the Chardonnay grape variety and 2 with the Pinot Noir grape. The vines rest on a soil composed of limestone and chalk (upper cretaceous) two essential factors to elaborate high quality Champagnes. The vineyard is maintained under integrated farming and all harvesting is done by hand.

The House Veuve Fourny also owns the famous Clos Faubourg de Notre Dame, since the 19th century.

Part of the harvest is matured in small French oak barrels for at least 6 months.

The House Veuve Fourny produces about 200,000 bottles per year, all in Premier Cru and Grand Cru.
