Château Malartic Lagravière

Château Malartic Lagravière

A magnificent Domaine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, known for its label proudly displaying a ship, Château Malartic-Lagravière is a true gem. Owned in the 18th century by the Comte de Malartic, Château was known as Domaine de La Gravière until 1850, when it took on its current name.

Since 1997, it has belonged to the Bonnie family, who, vintage after vintage, have continued to sublimate the wines with energy and passion, elevating Malartic-Lagravière among the greatest names in Bordeaux.

The Château Malartic-Lagravière is based on a 71-hectare vineyard planted on an exceptional Pyrenean gravel hilltop.

- The red grape varieties (62 ha) are 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The grand vin is aged for 15 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 70% of which are new. The Réserve de Malartic is the Second vin rouge.

 - The white grape varieties (9 ha) are 80% Sauvignon blanc and 20% Sémillon. The grand vin blanc is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 70% of which are new. The Réserve de Malartic is the Second white wine.

The Château Malartic-Lagravière is a great, very elegant wine, both red and white. The reds are fruity, fleshy and structured, while the whites are unctuous and saline. Quite simply, these are haute-couture wines.

Description Château Malartic-Lagravière 2023.

Return of a great Bordeaux classic, generous and elegant

The 2023 vintage is generous and very qualitative in both white and red. A great success for the estate, even if it required a great deal of attention and precision in the vineyard. Sanitary pressure this summer was high, but well under control.

A mild, rainy winter gave way to an almost tropical spring. The bunches came out nicely, and flowering was uniform at the end of May. The vines were doing well, and our green harvesting was well suited to regulating them, both on the leaves and on the bunches. Sanitary pressure was high from May to the end of July, with high hygrometry, but the Malartic vineyard remained healthy, with careful daily monitoring by our teams. In the end, it was the return of a true oceanic climate, with alternating heat and precipitation, leading to a very complete vine cycle and complete, homogeneous ripening.

Mild temperatures until the 3rd week of August were ideal for the whites. Harvested from August 28 to September 8, they are fabulously precise, fresh and chiselled.

The Merlot, harvested from September 12 onwards, showed real substance and freshness, while the Indian summer that set in at the end of September, with summer-like temperatures but cool nights, provided absolutely ideal conditions for perfecting the ripeness of our Cabernets, harvested until October 6.

The Malartic 2023s are already proving to be splendid, with beautiful substance, freshness and elegance. They offer remarkable balance, a velvety mouthfeel with great tannic finesse and beautiful density, which should make this vintage a new great classic.

Harvest date :

Merlot September 12 to 21
Cabernet-Sauvignon September 25 to October 5
Cabernet-Franc September 22
Petit-Verdot September 22

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
