Château La Dominique

It's impossible to miss this winery with its pretty red facade at Château La Dominique, right in the middle of the Saint-Emilion winegrowing landscape and on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. A wine estate since the 16th century, its name is said to have been chosen by Henri Greloud, its 18th-century owner, in reference to the Caribbean island of La Dominique, which was part of the triangular trade and contributed to the wealth of Bordeaux.

Acquired in 1969 by the Clément Group Fayat, the vineyard has undergone continuous improvements over the years.

A turning point in its progress was notably its technical complex created by architect Jean Nouvel and inaugurated in 2014. It includes both winemaking spaces and a rooftop reception point with the restaurant "la terrasse rouge". The latter offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding vineyards.

The Château La Dominique was named Grand Cru Classé as soon as the Saint-Emilion classification was created in 1955, so renowned was it even then for the consistency and quality of its wines. It has maintained this position ever since.

Neighboring prestigious Châteaux such as Cheval Blanc, La Conseillante or l'Evangile, Château La Dominique boasts a 29-hectare vineyard planted on clay-gravel, clay-limestone and sandy-clay soils. The grape varieties are 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
