Château Talbot

This important vineyard of Saint-Julien takes its name from the English Constable Talbot, defeated at the Battle of Castillon near Bordeaux in 1453, which put an end to the Hundred Years' War.

This Château is a fourth Grand Cru Classé on the prestigious 1855 list.

The vineyard covers just over 105 hectares, with vines averaging 35 years in age, and production is around 530 barrels or between 600 and 650,000 bottles a year for an average red yield of 4 to 5000 liters per hectare.

Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon 66%, Merlot Noir 26%, Petit Verdot 5% and Cabernet Franc 3%.

Château Talbot also has 5 hectares planted with white Sauvignon for 80% and 20% Semillon. This is one of the oldest Secs wines in the Médoc: Château Caillou Blanc.

All the grapes are hand-picked and 40 to 50%, depending on the Vintage, are aged in barrels for 15 to 18 months, then bottled in an air-conditioned warehouse.
