La Lagune

The origin of Château La Lagune dates back to the eighteenth century.

The vineyard of this Château which lies on one of the most beautiful gravelly hilltops of the Medoc is a third Grand Cru Classé Haut-Médoc of the prestigious list of 1855.

The vineyard covers about 82 hectares, average age 35 years, and production is about 389 barrels per year depending on the vintage, i.e. 467,000 bottles for an average yield per hectare of 4000 to 4500 liters.

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot Noir 30% and Petit Verdot 10%.

All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged entirely in barrels, 50% of which are new, for 16 to 18 months depending on the Vintage before bottling.

Description Château La Lagune 2023.

The year 2023 was marked by a certain instability in the weather. Rainfall in autumn 2022 and winter 2023 was slightly deficient. However, the March sleet dampened the soil. Average temperatures in spring 2023 were above the seasonal average. Combined with regular thunderstorms in April and May, they created a tropical atmosphere during the day. These conditions were conducive to high cryptogamic disease pressure, which lasted right up to veraison.

Summer was mixed, with very hot June and August and a rather cool July. A peak in temperature in mid-August concentrated the grapes. However, they were able to take advantage of heavy rainfall on September 12 to regain volume. Good temperature variations in September allowed the grapes to perfect their ripeness.

The harvest ended on September 29.

After three consecutive manual sortings, carried out by our teams, and supported by optical sorting, the best berries are selected to be vatted in semi-gravity. The Extraction process is guided by daily tastings.

The aim is to reveal only the purest, highest-quality tannins in our grapes, thus bringing out the finesse and elegance of our terroirs. The Château La Lagune will result from the blending of our finest vats from our best plots.
