Bouchard Père & Fils

Bouchard Père & Fils

It was in 1731 that Michel BOUCHARD founded the House of Bouchard Père et Fils, a very old House of Bourgogne wines whose traditions have been perpetuated over 9 generations and for more than 280 years.

Since 1775, the House of Bouchard has acquired parcel after parcel of Domaine which to this day covers 130 hectares of which only 12 are legally classified as Grands Crus at the very top of the qualitative hierarchy of Bourgognes. This Domaine includes parcels of vines called "climat" with mythical names: Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus, Bonnes-mares, Meursault Perrières...

1820: Bernard BOUCHARD buys the site of the former Château of Beaune, a royal fortress built in the fifteenth century, to store his wines in cellars 10 meters deep, which still houses today a unique collection of about 2000 bottles of the nineteenth century.

Traditions and Modernity could be the motto of this House which invested in 2005 in an efficient working tool, the Saint Vincent vat house in Savigny-lès-Beaune, based 5 meters underground thus allowing the grapes by gravitation to naturally access the 138 maceration vats or the presses. The wines are then aged in wood in a cellar with a capacity of 4000 barrels.

Description Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Premier Cru "Clos-Saint-Landry" 2019.

Before receiving the Clos Saint-Landry appellation, this vineyard appeared under the name Tiélandry, designating Domaine from a certain Landry. It is on this magnificent parcel that the earliest traces of the Chardonnay grape were found at Beaune. A Rareté on this Pinot Noir territory! It then became the property of the Abbey of Maizières, before being purchased by Antoine Philibert Joseph Bouchard in 1791. Since then, Bouchard Père & Fils has preciously retained the monopoly of this 1.98-hectare white Premier Cru.

In 2019, a very good vintage in Bourgogne, a hot summer and Sec will allow good ripening of the grapes for harvests that will be spread out from early September to early October. This 1er Cru Saint-Landry will spend 9-10 months in French oak barrels (15% of which are new), followed by 3-4 months in stainless steel tanks.

From its brilliant golden color with light green highlights emerge lovely aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, green pineapple and white flowers. The aromatic contribution of ageing is very well controlled, with a delicate woody note that in no way masks the fruit, but on the contrary highlights it. A marvelous bouquet, fine and expressive.

The palate reveals itself elegantly textured and enveloping, with a fatness of Extraordinary sweetness. A concentrate of white stone fruit and flowers returns again, accompanied by a subtle woody note, the whole is full of harmony. A beautiful tension gives it a lovely fresh, acidic, very distinguished side, on a long, saline, iodized finish.

This great wine from a superb monopole parcel will improve over a good ten years. A fine gastronomic match could be made by pairing it with a pavé of cod with curry and coconut milk, or scallops with saffron.
