Château Doisy-Daëne

Owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924

Location & History

Château Doisy-Daëne, Second Cru Classé in 1855, located in Barsac in the Sauternes appellation, has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924. For over eighty years, three generations of winemakers have worked here from father to son to produce great sweet wines: Georges (1924-1948), Pierre (1949-1999) and Denis since 2000.

Soils

The terroir of the Barsac plateau is a singular geological formation in the Bordeaux region. A thin layer of clayey sands known as "les sables rouges du barsacais" covers the limestone subsoil. This relatively uncracked slab of rock limits the vines' rooting depth to around 50 cm. During the summer, the finely porous limestone returns to the vines the water they have soaked up during the winter, avoiding excessive water stress. This type of soil gives white wines exceptional finesse.

Description Château Doisy-Daëne 2023.

Harvesting, carried out by experienced pickers, requires 3 to 6 passes, to pick the grapes concentrated by "noble rot" at the ideal stage. For the past three quarters of a century, oenological progress and sustainable viticulture have combined to express the character of Doisy-Daëne grapes. The result of this know-how is a surprisingly minimalist winemaking process Extraith slow pressings, the pure, rich musts ferment in oak barrels renewed every quarter. Ageing then begins with 10 months in barrels, in the coolness of the cellars, punctuated by weekly topping-up and regular racking. This is followed by 9 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Tasting

Doisy-Daëne wines have a distinctive style, emphasizing the brightness of fruit concentrated by "noble rot", as well as nervousness, balance and delicate flavors. This style is at once the expression of a great limestone terroir and of a family aesthetic tradition, that of racy, diamond-pure white wines, combining power and freshness in endless youth.
