Henri Giraud

Champagne Henri Giraud, a Maison directed by Claude Giraud from an old family settled in Aÿ for several generations on a vineyard located mainly on the mountain of Aÿ.

Aÿ, a prestigious name that has always been part of the history of this wine-growing region, whose wines have been ranked among the world's finest for at least ten centuries. The kings of France have always been keen to own a plot of vines in Aÿ. Henri IV, King of France, even called himself "Sieur d'Aÿ". Until 1887, wines from the Champagne region were known as "vins d'Aÿ", and it was only then that these wines definitively acquired the name "Champagnes".

Today, 323 crus of Champagne have the right to produce Champagne, but only 17 are legally classified as "Grands Crus". Aÿ, classified as Grand Cru, is the geographical, qualitative and historical heart of Champagne.

The vines of this mythical terroir plunge their roots into the intimacy of the deep veins of its limestone to draw its Extraordinary expressions that are so mineral and flowery.

House Henri Giraud produces several qualities of Champagne but Premium Grands Crus has retained only a few, true to its charter.

Description Henri Giraud Perpetual Reserve 90-19.

Premier Champagne 100% Réserve Perpétuelle de la Maison Henri Giraud. The cuvée blends 1/3 of a first "solera" started in 1990 - destined for Giraud's MV Fût de Chène - and whose last contribution is the 2019 vintage (hence its numerical ID 90-19), with a Seconde "solera" for the remaining 2/3 that dates from 1950 and was destined for Giraud's Esprit cuvée. These Réserves are kept in heavy concrete-bottomed vats, housed in a cellar buried 5 meters below the bed of the Marne and offering a constant temperature of 10.5°: an ideal refuge ... not to mention zero carbon (no energy expended).

This cuvée is made from a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. Fermentations are carried out, as always at Henri Giraud, in Argonne oak barrels, and the wines remain on lees for 3 years before disgorgement. Only 8,000 bottles were produced.

La robe reveals an intense gold color with brilliant highlights. The nose is marked by gourmandise, ripe fruit, orange blossom and cinnamon. The palate is dynamic and fresh, with the full ripeness of juicy fruit combined with the liveliness of blood orange and the roundness of honey, finishing with the strong minerality of Aÿ chalk. The finish is very elegant and persistent.

This Champagne Perpetual Reserve 90-19 from Maison Henri Giraud is perfect for grand apéritifs, vernissages, honorary receptions ... they love petits fours, foie gras, salmon eggs, shrimp cocktails ...
