Domaine de la Romanée Conti
It is a Domaine located in Bourgogne, steeped in history and so prestigious throughout the world.
As early as 312, the rhetorician Eumenes mentions this terroir, whose wines were in great demand by Roman and Gallo-Roman connoisseurs.
It was in 1769 that Domaine La Romanée was purchased by the Prince of Conti, a Prince of the blood since he was the cousin of the King of France, Louis XV. The Domaine will be sold as "national property" during the French Revolution and it is only during the Restoration, under the reign of King Louis XVIII, that the name of Conti will be added to Romanée to form its current name: La Romanée-Conti.
The company La Romanée-Conti DRC, it is to date 8 Grands Crus exclusively: Corton, Echezeaux, Grand-Echézeaux, La Tâche, Montrachet, Richebourg, Romanée-Conti and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, all classified at the very top of the qualitative hierarchy of the wines of Bourgogne. The vineyards cover a little more than 25 hectares for an annual production of 80 000 bottles. The pinot noir grape variety is planted on all except the Montrachet vineyard planted with the chardonnay grape variety.
All the grapes are harvested by hand with successive and very meticulous sorting of the berries, either in the vineyard or in the cellar, and the wines of the different climates (a name typically used by the Bourgogne to designate a piece however small) are aged in French oak barrels.
The harvest is so prestigious that it is purchased 2 or even 3 years in advance by buyers from around the world.
