Domaine Dujac

The Maison Dujac, jewel of the Bourgogne viticulture, perfectly embodies the elegance and age-old tradition for which the wines of this prestigious region are renowned. Founded by the Seysses family, this trading and Domaine viticultural house enjoys a rich history and exceptional terroir that contribute to the international reputation of its wines.

The history of Maison Dujac began in 1968, when Jacques Seysses and his wife Rosalind acquired their first parcels of vines at Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits en Bourgogne. Jacques, a wine enthusiast of Bordeaux origin, brought with him a fresh take on Burgundian winemaking, while respecting the region's age-old traditions and know-how. Indeed, it is in tribute to Jacques Dujac, Rosalind's grandfather, that the House is named "Dujac", marking a family heritage that endures.

Over the years, the Seysses family has expanded its Domaine by acquiring new parcels in some of the greatest terroirs of Bourgogne. Today, Maison Dujac's Domaine extends over a considerable area of vines, spread over several prestigious appellations such as Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Vosne-Romanée, to name but a few. Each parcel is carefully selected for its qualitative potential and unique character, illustrating the Seysses family's commitment to producing exceptional wines.

Terroir plays a fundamental role in the expression of Maison Dujac wines. The Bourgogne is famous for its geological diversity, and each appellation has specific soils that give the... See more ...

Description Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2021.

The Grand Cru Clos de La Roche lies between Morey Saint Denis to the south and Gevrey Chambertin to the north. The Maison Dujac parcel is about 2 hectares; it faces due east, with rich, reddish-brown clay-limestone soil at the bottom, and small limestone gravels at the top.

During the harvest, the bunches arrive whole at the winery to bring more complexity. They will be more or less destemmed (10 to 20%), depending on vintage and parcel of origin, to preserve a silkier feel. Fermentation is triggered naturally by the indigenous yeasts in the grapes. Aging lasts 15 months in French oak barrels, 75% of which are new. Bottling is by gravity only, without fining or filtration. Finally, the wines will only be released after a few months' rest in the cellar.

The nose is immediately on fresh fruit, raspberry, cherry and blood orange combined with scents of peony, cocoa and cinnamon. The palate is concentrated, enveloping and elegant, evoking Morello cherry and its stone, sap and cedar wood. Supple, powdery tannins are supported by salivating acidity. The finish is long and fragrant with a hint of menthol.

This Clos de La Roche 2021 from Maison Dujac will sublimate a tender chicken en croute de sel or a fondant tournedos de charolais sauce marchand de vin.
