Barons de Rothschild

Passionate about France's finest terroirs, since 2005 the three branches of the Rothschild Family - represented by Baron Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Château Mouton Rothschild), baron Benjamin and his wife Ariane (Château Clarke - Groupe Edmond de Rothschild), Baron Éric and his daughter Saskia (Château Lafitte Rothschild) - are uniting, for the first time around a common will, in the creation of an exceptional Champagne wine.

The House credo: "The first quality must be absolute elegance!"

The Family's personal and original interpretation of this Grand Vin de Champagne involves a very "chardonnay" style.

The latter represents over 70% of the House's supplies, only in Premier Cru and Grand Cru.

And to claim the purest possible expression of the nobility of these juices, dosages are minimalist.

Description Barons de Rothschild Rare Collection Blanc de Blancs 2012.

2012 ... what a complicated year!!! It began with a long, cold winter, followed by a cool spring with little sunshine.

Then came hail and heavy storms until the end of July. It was the sunshine and warmth of August that saved the harvest, too low in quantity to be sure, but of a quality level Rare and exceptional.

2012 ranks among the best vintages of all time.

The chardonnays blended in this cuvée come from 4 grands crus of the Côte des blancs, Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil sur Oger.

After vinification by parcel, aging is done on fine lees for 9 months with regular stirring in small vats.

Ageing on laths, after bottling, is 8 years.

After disgorging, a simple dosage at 4g/L is practiced, followed by a 12-month resting period.

This cuvée is marked by this sunny vintage.

There are notes of white-fleshed fruit, candied citron, then after aeration, aromas of roasting, apricot Sec and toasted almonds appear.

The palate is ample, rich, yet fresh and vertical.

Citrus, lemon zest, energize a toasty, mocha and vanilla finish. The perfect harmony between freshness and character.

This Blanc de blancs Rare Collection 2012 will be the perfect accompaniment to a poached turbot fillet or a veal medallion with morels.
