Raymond Ragnaud

Raymond Ragnaud

In the 1860s the Ragnaud family owned a small vineyard in Grande Champagne of Cognac, a cru not yet classified Premier Cru but recognized by all the professionals of the time as the best Cru in the Cognac Region and which would later be classified Premier Cru because of its exceptional qualities.

The vineyard then, as now, was planted with Folle Blanche and Ugni-Blanc, a grape variety resistant to phylloxera, a deadly disease that plagued the entire Cognac vineyard at the time.

It was in 1920 that Paul Ragnaud settled at Château in Ambleville followed in 1941 by his son Raymond, who decided to create the Raymond Ragnaud brand by bottling the eaux de vie of his heritage under his name.

In 1963, his wife, later helped by his two children, Françoise and Jean-Marie, increased the vineyard by successive purchases to 47 hectares spread over 3 properties: Ambleville, Criteuil la Madeleine and Lignères-Sonneville on the famous limestone hillsides of Grande Champagne.

For the past 30 years, Françoise Ragnaud-Bricq has remained true to her ancestral roots, managing her three vineyards and perpetuating the traditions of know-how of a family established in Ambleville for over 150 years in the vineyards of Grande Champagne Premier Cru.

Description Raymond Ragnaud Réserve Rare Carafe Orphée.

Presented in a magnificent "Orphée" decanter, Raymond Ragnaud Réserve Rare Orphée is a Cognac made from grapes grown on the prestigious Grande Champagne terroir. Bottled at 41% alcohol, it is a blend of eaux-de-vie aged for twenty years in French Limousin oak barrels. The overall effect is one of admirable finesse.

Arboring a lovely amber color, its bouquet is exceptional in its freshness and elegance. Floral notes of jasmine mingle with musky and citrus scents. Elegant notes of cedarwood and nutmeg are accompanied by a delicate freshness of bergamot. A light rancio and a few touches of fig, apricot Sec and tobacco also make their appearance in a nose marvelous for its finesse and complexity.

The rich, unctuous palate opens with discreet notes of citrus, orange-peel marmalade. This is followed by generous aromas of stewed yellow fruit and poached pear. Notes of peach, melon and apricot Sec make for a lively, very fruity whole, finishing with luscious notes of honey, caramel and vanilla. The long, elegant finish is sprinkled with oriental spices, in an exceptional mellowness that exalts the terroir of Grande Champagne.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
