Château Cantenac-Brown

Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Cantenac Brown is a magnificent Tudor-style estate unique in the Médoc. It was founded by Scottish businessman John Lewis Brown, who bought Domaine in 1803 and entrusted it with this architectural inspiration.

The Château Cantenac Brown will be classified Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855 during the official classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition. 

Owned by the Le Lous Family since 2019, the vineyard, situated on magnificent gravel soils conducive to producing great wines, is planted on 60 hectares with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. A Second wine is produced, Brio de Cantenac Brown. 

Since 2011, Château owns 1.80 ha planted to 90% Sauvignon blanc and 10% Sémillon, giving birth to their white wine: Alto de Cantenac Brown.

Very committed to the environment, a new, eco-responsible, all-raw-earth winery is currently under construction for the estate. It will be delivered for the 2023 harvest.

The wines of Château Cantenac deliver a perfect representation of the very best Margaux, opulent, fine and deliciously complex.

Description Château Cantenac Brown 2016.

At the beginning of the 2016 vintage, the vine will bud in good conditions thanks to a mild spring. After a homogeneous flowering in June thanks to very good sunshine conditions, the summer turned out to be hot and dry, and as a result, the vines developed superbly. The very nice months of September and October allowed the berries to ripen to perfection, and the harvest took place in almost perfect conditions.

Blend of the 2016 vintage: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot

The color is a very pronounced red, with garnet hues and a slight tint of tile.

The nose is superbly balanced, with flavors of kirsch cherry, crème de cassis and roasted cocoa, sublimated by a hint of white pepper.

The attack in mouth is almost noble as it is silky, revealing density and a nice touch. The tannins are elegant and racy, the wine plays on notes of jammy black fruits, plum and wood. The finish is refreshing, long and greedy.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Cantenac-Brown 2016 can be enjoyed with charcuterie-based starters, such as a truffled ham or a game terrine. Serve it with a typical regional dish such as entrecote steak with Bordeaux sauce, roast lamb with baked potatoes or duck breast.

For cheese, choose a pressed uncooked cheese such as a Saint-nectaire or a Savoy tomme. For dessert, it will be very good with a chocolate fondant or a pear and chocolate tart.

Ageing potential and tasting:

This is a great Margaux wine that will be able to wait in the cellar for at least 10 years, its peak being between 2026 and 2036.

To be served at room temperature, having opened and decanted the bottle at least 3 hours before tasting. Proceed to successive tastings to measure the evolution of the wine and its qualitative peak.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
