Château Giscours

The Château Giscours combines all the titles of nobility proper to the greatest wines of Margaux. The first written mention of Giscours refers to a fortified keep around 1330, but its history did not really begin until 1552, when Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy draper from Bordeaux, acquired Domaine and planted the first vines.

In 1847, Château was built in the Renaissance style as we know it today, then gradually its famous park was developed and production tools were modernized.

At the famous 1855 wine classification, Château Giscours was named Third Grand Cru Classé.

Taken over in 1995 by the Jelgersma family, meticulous work was carried out in the vineyard and winery to restore the property's reputation. Today, the vineyard comprises 100 hectares of vines: 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged for 15 to 17 months in 50% new French oak barrels.

The estate produces a Second wine, La Sirène de Giscours, as well as a third wine classified as Haut-Médoc, the Haut-Médoc de Giscours.

The wines of Château Giscours are synonymous with refinement and aromatic richness, carried on the fruit and apt to wait for long ageing.

Description Sirène de Giscours 2013.

La Sirène de Giscours 2013, Château Giscours' second wine, has an intense ruby color with purple highlights. Grown on 95 hectares of Garonne gravel and glacial sand, it is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Vinified in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, then aged for 12-15 months in French oak barrels (50% new), it combines finesse and structure. This elegant wine is the perfect accompaniment to a fillet of duckling roasted with honey and sweet spices.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
