Château Pontet-Canet

Perched on the heights of the Pauillac appellation, Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc's most essential crus. Its founder, Jean-François de Pontet, esquire to the king and governor of the Médoc, acquired it in 1725, and a few years later his heirs bought the neighboring land at Canet: thus was born Château Pontet-Canet.

Le Domaine was awarded the title of Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 wine classification officialized for the Paris Universal Exhibition. A decade later, it was acquired by Herman Cruse, a Bordeaux merchant of Danish origin, and underwent a complete renovation.

It wasn't until Guy Tesseron, who already owned Château Lafon-Rochet to Saint-Estèphe, bought it in 1975 that Domaine began to shine again. His son Alfred would reveal the Extraordinary potential of his terroir from 1994 onwards, converting Domaine to biodynamic farming in particular, thanks to the support of his steward and trusted man Jean-Michel Comme.

Today, it's his daughter Justine Tesseron who continues his work, making Pontet-Canet shine on the wine scene.

Today, Château Pontet-Canet reigns over an 81-hectare vineyard, entirely managed according to biodynamic principles since the 2004 vintage. This makes Domaine a forerunner and benchmark in the world of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés. It was certified by the Biodyvin and Ecocert labels in 2010, then by the Demeter label in... See more ...

Description Château Pontet-Canet 2001.

Adorned with an elegant deep ruby color with orange highlights, the wine announces itself with a delicate, complex nose. The bouquet combines aromas of jammy red fruits: strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant, but also notes of evolution: hearth and baking. On the palate, the attack is relatively full, evolving into a dense, rich body. The tannic load is imposing yet perfectly integrated. The aromas of the nose unfold with power and elegance, bringing a very gourmet dimension. The long finish adds a touch of freshness with its spicy notes.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
